  11. Wow. That is incredible, Tony! Absolutely incredible! What an inspiring story at a time when everyone, myself included, can certainly use an inspiring story.

And now, I’m really pumped, having just listened to “Day 2″ of Creating Lasting Change. That’s incredible, too. :-)

OK, congratulations to Dave and to everyone on the plane! And thank you so much for sharing, Tony!

  13. I had the opportunity to met Dave at a UPW… in Long beach… and was his Daughter’s partner … when we Walked on Fire… She was around 10 years old at the time…

But I met Dave again few years later at a Date with Destiny.. and he remembered me..as if it was yesterday….Dave is one of the most humblest…. dedicated…. and Genetically coded person for having the Biggest heart… any one could met…. I believe one of his true passions in life.. is to help others.. as it was shown… on that plane… God Bless Dave…

  23. Thank you Tony for sharing this with us - and Dave - words can’t describe how impressed I am by your courage and composure.
As Tony said - to be able to manage your state, and set the right meaning for the event - is such a gift that you gave to your fellow passengers.
I honor and respect you - and look forward to congratulating you in person at my next event!

  25. Thanks for sharing Dave’s story. I love the fact that ordinary folks do extraordinary things and take the time to care for others, especially in high tension events such as the plane going down. It’s truly inspiring. Thanks for giving more of an inside and personal look into the actual event.

  45. Dear Tony,
It’s truly a miracle that everyone survived. We, the people, needed a happy ending to this story. Our country has has so much negative lately, this story is a reminder to be grateful, to be in the moment. I also believe it’s a sign that more good things are to come. God Bless Dave and the pilot for what they did for others.

  49. Hi Tony,

I have been hoping to be able to speak to you in person over the past few years, but unfortunately i have not had the opportunity to do so… I don’t know if you remember but 2 years ago you would have seen a big 6 ft rabbit at DWD at the Gold Cost in Australia… that was me… for a lifetime I have had and still have a problem with making physical contact with people… you might say this was my way of reaching out for help… unfortunately the opportunity has been and gone… i would like to thank you for all the learning over the past 5 years… there have been some good times and some bad … but overall i am a happier person for it.

  53. You are so right on - EVERYONE has got a hero inside!

My girlfriend was up flying from Sweden to Denmark - a short trip, but in really bad conditions - at the exact same time I heard about the plane coming down in the hudson. As she has a fear of flying, I knew she would be scared s…les both during the trip but also long after she got home. She got home safe - of course - flying is still the safest way to travel - and we spoke about what had happened in US. We watched the news online in disbelief and mourned at, what we first thought was a tragic accident - a couple of hours later in the middle of the night we heard that everybody survived the crashlanding and couldn’t believe it. It is such an astonishing act the pilot has performed - that guy truly has to know everything there is to know about flying that specific plane to maneuver it the way he did! So here’s a big big hug from Denmark to your friend Dave, who not only saved a heck of a lot of people, demonstrated how to manage his state and afterwards showed an heroic focus, determination and leadership - but also at the same time, probably gave people with a fear of flying - like my girlfriend - a new perspective on what is actually possible with the right person behind the wheel! :)

And to you my friend - this blog is the exact right tool to communicate these days! Keep the videos coming, they are spreading a lot of positive vibes in my community! :)

    Thanks as always

And to the pilot and his crew… it sends shivers up my spine to think what you must have been going through… a huge pat on the back for what was a truly amazing job… well done our hero!

  67. A great story and a nice personal anecdote. Tony, it’s good to see you looking like a real and AUTHENTIC human being, and not all made up and “hair did” (sorry, but I’ve pulled out the old PP2 CDs recently). Yes, this is a story we’ll be telling our children. Great to see something so positive and inspirational, as well as seeing the media spending so much time on positive news.

Great of you to do this “shout out”. I’m a UPW and Master University graduate, and my life has also been changed because of you and what I learned through all of that. It’s terrific of you to acknowledge Dave, and it’s great to see how his example will affect so many more people around the world, and be an inspiration to learn how to pull from the best that is in us, at all times, to grow and assist others in this world!
Like you say, “All I need is within me now”, and Dave surely proved that by his bravery today!

  73. Well, Dear Tony,

Congratulations to you too really, because today, in such a heroic and admirable way I guess God wanted to acknowledge you for the inspiring and extraordinary work you’ve been doing all of these years. Dave, you knew him personally, but what I’m trying to say here is that there are millions others (like me of course) who no matter the distance have been touched by you without you knowing so. I believe God uses us in ways we don’t even have the slightest idea, and so we become His instruments to help us each other. You are a very special one, by whom -in part- He has realized such miracles like “The Hudson Miracle”.

  77. YOU GO DAVE!!! All things happen for a reason, and you were meant to be on that plane at the time you were on it…And, your best work and service is yet to come. There are no accidents, only what will be your response to it is your choice. Thanks Tony for all that you do in helping so many people around the world. May your arrow always find its way to the target you have set for it- James Wall

  78. James Wall on January 16th, 2009
  79. Great testimonial Tony, thank you so much. In such a critical situation there was not too much time to think or to program his own actions, if Dave acted this way it was only because he “programmed” himself to do so by a lifetime of self-discipline, CANI and accumulation of many tiny efforts to improve his character. This is the lesson we all must learn: daily discipline and tiny efforts is what finally make us and drive our behaviour when the moment of test arrives. As it happened, this can save not only our own life but also many other people’s lives !

    Live with passion !

  85. Hi Tony,
As a volunteer crew member at many East Coast events, I met Dave several times. He is a strong character and has a rock solid bsae of ethics.

Following an incident on stage at DAR Hall in Washington, I talked with Dive and he was very informative about taking control both with individuals and with crowds. He is an inspiration to all of the volunteer crews trhat I have enjoyed sharing the Robbins Experience.

His heroism on the plane is truly a reflection of one of your tenets: Always stay in the “gym”, meaning to continually practice being in the moment, improving and getting closer to your core.

Dave’s actions continue to inspire. There are many heroes in this rescue and everyone doing what they are good at produced an extraordinary outcome.

  161. Each and every one of s a form of Dave in us. The thing is, you won’t know, or maybe realize it, until you you are the certain situation. Things may look the bleakest at that moment but you somehow feel, deep down inside, that your own special quality, trait, or skill has come together with whatever it the situation is and it is your time to shine. Not to shine in a pompous, selfish way but to shine in knowing that God has placed you in that special place, at that certain time, when you, and only you, can show that humanity - way deep down in some cases- is good, caring, and compassionate. That is the moment in which, and the stuff that, heroes are made of. Everyone could be that hero, just don’t let it pass you by when that time comes, just always do what you can do whenever you can because that could be the moment the hero will come out in you.

Whoo-Hoo ~ a great story. Interestingly, the media has not picked up on the fact that just 2 days prior to this crash landing the news was bragging that statistics were showing that there had been no loss of human life due to commercial aircraft accidents in the past 2 years ~ and that statistic continues to grow! [I also reported tv news for 12+ years and love statistics].

  237. Thank you Tony for acknowledging both the pilot and your amazing friend Dave! This points out the difference it makes when you choose to stay in a state of positive meaning and serving… and in this case in the midst of catastrophy…wow truly heroic! I am sure both of these heroes have huge hearts and on top of that have trained their minds to do just that. I am so impressed and it hits me what difference we can make in our everyday lives by follwing their example. These actions are truly heroic for saving all those lives – and the meaning and effect will go way beyond that! Thank you Tony, for sharing Dave’s story and making that happen.

  269. Here’s to Dave, the pilot and all the unsung heroes we meet in everyday life! They inspire through their dedication, commitment and unselfishness and they show us that ordinary people are capable of doing extraordinary things if the situation demands it. Sometimes we need a ‘disaster’ to show us what we are truly capable of, to show us that we can

    ‘find a way
    around or over or through,
pushing open doors that others can’t see
    because their minds are closed
to the range of endless possibilities…
    Good coming out of bad,
    warmth radiating from cold,
    sunshine pouring out of snow.
Resistance makes us all grow stronger
and fly ever higher on the wind of life,
so the difficulties we meet are what we need
if we want to be the highest flying kite.’
(adapted from my book ‘Family and More - Enemies or Friends?’)

God bless Dave and thank you for sharing, Tony.

  281. Some of us have large families, others have the small ones, and some have themselves but all of us in TR community, thanks to a beautiful heart of Tony who once envisioned the ideal family situation, have our family on his site. In that family we have learned to walk again by speaking a new language of our hearts, by using a new vocabulary of awareness, thoughtfulness, sensitivity, gentleness, kindness. Here, in that family we remembered all the empowering, encouraging, supportive, creative words by getting permission to use them through the examples of our Big Man walking on fire, dancing with fears, smiling at doubts, facing challenges with courage, loving with heart and living with passion. We had not known it was possible to walk on water though, not until the Hudson Miracle happened. Now when one of the best of us, Dave did it we all know that we can.
We can help others while ourselves in danger, we can reach out to those who needs our hands, we can remember this day as the Day when everything went right: from the right pilot landing the plain on the right spot in Hudson waters, to the right effort of all rescuers, and the right attitude of calm and collected individuals who helped others, to almost being at the right place and right time if it meant to have happened, of all the survivors. Human spirit makes us say the right words and do the right deeds, it can win any battle, and that one was won. I take a liberty to say from all hearts of TR family that we are grateful.

    Love and Light

I hadn’t heard about this story as I don’t watch tv, and I am in Australia…so not even sure if it would have been reported here. So often the news is full of disaster and heartache that I can’t bare to watch it.
This is truely a story of inspiration though!
A perfect example of overcoming our fears at the most testing times to become stronger and more centred people.

I need your brilliant inspiration to go beyond my wildest dreams and give back the way you do everyday, for how many years now? I will never forget the jolt of energy (electrifying!) I got the fist time I shook your hand on stage in Canada.

Miracles are present all around us - I’ve known this firsthand for years. This was no fluke - heroes were born ready. Trust your primal instincts always - live with no regrets.

This is my first findings of your blog - Happy to see that your (finally) moving into the new century and the technology that follows along with that.
And it’s a complete new world of possibilities - and a complete new way of interacting with people - not just 1-on-1. Or 1-to-many. But a way (if implemented wisely) of getting people involved - to help - helping in a complete never ever seen way. Try thinking: what if - the (pick a number…ok I will pick one for you:) top-1.000.000 of the people you’ve coached and helped - started actively go out and use the abilities to make the world a better place. Involving more people - as getting others to help - helping…
What will the impact on the current (financial) crisis be?
Thanks again for your guidance and making my world a better place…

I’ll take this opportunity to thank you, Tony. I’ve never met you, but read your books and listened to your tape programs starting in 1995. Over the years, your inspiring words have taught me many things but most importantly never to give up. This was put to the test when my son fell into into hard drug addiction. I kept affirming there must help and I took action. It took 4 years and many false starts but in the end we found a very unconventional place in Peru. Long story short : he went for 9 months, learned to speak Spanish in the deal and has now been back for 18 months and is fine.
